Session 1:  Advanced Solutions Design Software
CAD2BIM: How OSU took campus facilities management to the next level

Join Joe Porostosky, Director of Facilities Information and Technology Services at The Ohio State University and Dan Looney from Advanced Solutions as they walk you through the OSU journey to BIM.  Through 9 years of extensive research and refinement, OSU has significantly reduced the legwork for other campuses with the development of CAD2BIM.  Learn more about this new process, the importance of standardization, execution and how OSU uses it to provide new services and benefits, streamline management, optimize renovations, and increase communication with stakeholders and potential donors.

Session 2:  ASSA ABLOY
The IoT:  “A doorway in time, walking through a waking world.”

We live in a wonderful world, where science and technology meet fantasy.  A world where what was impossible yesterday is overcome today and becomes commonplace tomorrow.  We live in an age where trains travel almost as fast as planes, where a small handheld device is your link to the world.

As technology touches our lives, and the things in our lives, new vistas are opened before our eyes.  Cars that can talk and soon will drive themselves, houses that we can talk to, that respond accordingly.

Everyday objects that once were inanimate, now have been given life.  Let’s have a conversation about a doorway in time and through time.  Where do we stand today and what do we see on the horizon.

This Internet if Things is becoming the Internet of everything.  What was once a convenience is now a necessity.

Learning Objectives:

  • Form a foundation for looking at technological advancements
  • Begin to think about where your facilities are today in connectivity and what is coming down the road
  • Start to formulate how you would like to embrace technology within your systems to capitalize on existing and future infrastructure

Business Impact:

The IoT is very real and impacting everything we do on a daily basis, understanding the innovations and educating yourself on technology will enable you to make educated decisions on where your organization is headed and develop a path to take you there.

Session 3:   Autodesk / CADD Microsystems
BIM Requirements: Why You Need to Have Them

As many higher education owners transition to BIM, the first step they all take in that process is to create a set of BIM Requirements, as they are the cornerstone to a successful implementation. What are they? Why are they important? How are they used? What will you find in them? During this deep-dive session, all of these questions will be answered in detail. In addition, you will learn about best practices, tips, and see what others are doing. You will walk away with all you need to know about these critical documents. --This session is part of the Year of the Deliverable training series.--

Session 4:   Autodesk / CADD Microsystems
BIM Model QC Tools

Go on a deep-dive of the free tools to both properly classify the elements in your models as well as perform quality control checks: the Autodesk Model Checker and Classification Manager for Revit.  Whether you are reviewing your models or having your consultants provide reviews before submissions, this session will give you the skills necessary to ensure you’re getting what you’ve asked for with your modeling requirements.  We will spend time on the different classification systems you can use, including FICM, as well as how to build your own custom model checks and reports. --This session is part of the Year of the Deliverable training series.--

Session 5:  EcoDomus
BIM Common Data Environment (CDE) for Lifecycle Data Management: case studies from Sydney Opera House and other EcoDomus clients

EcoDomus’ CEO, Igor Starkov, will share the lessons learned implementing BIM from design & construction to operations and facility management at organizations like the University of Southern California, Stanford, Sydney Opera House, GSA, Google, etc. The case studies will cover topics like: BIM Quality Control, BIM integration with IoT/BAS/CMMS/IWMS, BIM + 3D GIS, Point Clouds for Asset Management, Smart P&IDs connected to BIM, 2D/3D markups and BCF-compliant issues management, and other innovative technologies.”

Session 6:  Esri

Esri Technology & Resources: Indoors, Across Campus, BIM-GIS Interoperation, and the Road Forward

This preconference session will explore new software developments and the growing body of resources that tie to key campus workflows as well as new learning choices that will help keep users current and successful. Of prime importance is the launch of ArcGIS Indoors, which includes the mapping of indoor spaces and campus and in-building navigation with GIS. Equally important is the continuing Esri-Autodesk alliance and the move to facilitate BIM-GIS integration. One manifestation of this work is the direct read of Revit models in ArcGIS Pro 2.2. Besides the ArcGIS core platform, new templates and extensions are regularly developed and deployed such as those focused on emergency management, public works, capital planning, and utilities. However, access to GIS software and related resources is not necessarily a formula for immediate success. This is why Esri invests heavily in advancing its training materials and learning opportunities for users. This includes the creation of new Learning Plans that foster mastery at a personal pace.

Session 7:  FM:Systems
The Future of Smart Buildings and Space Utilization – Understanding and analyzing how your staff, faculty and students are interacting with your space

In this presentation we will explore how emerging sensor based smart building technologies can be coupled with employee facing kiosks and mobile devices to enable organizations to better understand how their staff, faculty and students are interacting with your campus space. We will discuss the benefits and limitations of different occupancy utilization tracking methods, tools, and workflows which can help you better understand the concept of real-time utilization and how your space is really being used.  We will also explore the hurdles that campuses must overcome when deploying smart building solutions including how to turn vast volumes of data from multiple sources into actionable intelligence to help you manage your space portfolio more efficiently.

We will have several sensors on-hand as well as examples of digital signage so attendees can get a close-up look at these emerging technologies and how they can be installed and implemented.  We’ll discuss each of the different solutions and which combinations are best to solve your specific needs.

Specific Learning Objectives are:

  • Understand the breadth of emerging based sensor technologies for measuring space utilization
  • Learn how digital signage can help you to create a better faculty, staff and student centric environment
  • Gain and understanding of the challenges to deployment of IoT sensor devices and how to overcome them
  • Learn how to select the unique sensor combination to meet your specific campus needs and goals

Session 8:  Planon

Planon Comes to Campus: Everything You Need to Succeed with IWMS

All attendees will receive a Planon care package!

Join Planon and some special guests for this fun, informative pre-conference session. Much like a new student arriving on campus for the first day of a new semester, there are many paths and exciting possibilities that open up when a college or university decides to take on an IWMS project and implementation. As exciting and critical those possibilities are, it can also be a little intimidating and requires great preparation and communication.

And we believe you shouldn’t have to do it alone!

Join our session to learn more about Planon’s approach to helping higher education institutions get the most out of an IWMS project. You’ll learn about our Campus Management solutions, experience a product demo, and learn more about our holistic approach, which includes consulting, managed services, lifecycle services, and more to help your team prepare to get the most out of an IWMS implementation on your campus.

We’ll also share some of our customer success stories – and share some of the exciting things they’ve been able to accomplish. We’ll also host a Q & A during this session – so come ready to ask us your top questions about IWMS! This pre-conference session is for everyone, and all attendees of this session will receive a Planon Care Package to help them on their IWMS journey – whether they’re just starting to research or if they’re ready to make a change.
