Conference Tours

Location: The Ohio State University

Details: Attendees will enjoy a bus tour of the OSU campus followed by five tour options.  Tour signup required.  Attendees will be contacted to signup in July.


Tour #1:  Architecture  FULL

This tour will start at the Ohio Stadium, affectionately referred to as “The Shoe”, situated adjacent to the core campus.  We will pass through the field from the north rotunda to the OSU football team entrance at the south end zone.  It’s a short walk to our Recreation Center, RPAC, where we will see a variety of spaces from the  grand lobby.  Nearby we will tour the addition and renovation of the Thompson Memorial Library at the head of the historic Oval offering views of the entire campus from the 11th floor reading room. Lastly we will see the just completed adaptive reuse of one of the most beautiful buildings on campus, Pomerene Hall, the new home of Data Analytics.

Tour #2:  Landscape

Tour newly renovated North and South Residential Districts. Walk through major green spaces such as the historic Oval and Mirror Lake Hollow and learn how they have evolved over the life of the university. See newly renovated or created spaces such as the North Academic Quad and Hale Green which help provide strong pedestrian connections and informal recreation spaces. Discuss changes to the campus transportation system and the university’s effort with sustainability.

Tour #3:  Arne Slettebak Planetarium  FULL

Operated since 1968 by the Department of Astronomy, it is a 63-seat 30-foot dome theater with a state-of-the-art Spitz SciDome XD digital projection system giving exquisite views of the night sky and takes you on digital journeys to the planets, stars, and distant galaxies.  

Tour #4:  CBEC Building

The CBEC 237,850 GSF building promotes an innovative, interdisciplinary research environment that accelerates the discovery process, giving Ohio State that edge to play a dynamic leadership role in scientific advancements.  The spaces are designed to cultivate interaction, collaboration and discovers. CBEC enhances creativity among teams and supports partnership between two premier departments.  This building is the first LEED-Silver Certified laboratory on campus. It was also the first building on the OSU campus to develop a BIM Execution plan, prior to a University guideline in place.  Pre-fabrication and coordination models were only a couple of advantages that the design and construct team utilized with BIM. In addition, the building was a catalysis for tracking asset data and transition to operations.  

Tour #5:  Schottenstein

Get a behind-the-scenes look at Ohio State’s venue for basketball, ice hockey, and national concert tours, seating up to 20,000 visitors.  It is the largest arena in the Big Ten.
