2017 Conference Special Event

Date: Thursday, August 3, 2017

Time: 6:00 - 9pm

Location: Capital Brewery

Details (Steve Lacy, University of Wisconsin - Madison)
In Wisconsin, we like to think of ourselves as the cultural mecca of the mid-west.  Our Thursday evening event will be a departure from the cultural establishment and more closely resemble a Wisconsin wedding.  I remember a wedding where the bride and the bridesmaid were screaming and rolling around on the dance floor pulling each other’s hair.  No doubt, the altercation had something to do with the groom.  We may be without culture, but I promise to leave the bride out of our event.

In Wisconsin, you build a traditional wedding around four things: a ceremony (which we will skip), food, beer, and a polka band.

1)     Food – a fish fry or a bratwurst cookout is most traditional.  We hear that fish served buffet style to a large group can be dicey, so we opted for the brat cookout with other dishes to cover most guest’s preferences (vegetarian options will be available).
2)     Beer – the venue is at the Capital Brewery, which is a very popular craft brewer in Madison.  They have a large outdoor drinking, dining, and music area.  You will have an option to go on a tour of the brewery as well.
3)     Music – The Red Hot Horn Dawgs.  Their music is much broader than just polka’s but they will be able to make this event feel like a Wisconsin wedding (hopefully without the brawl).

We hope everyone comes out Thursday evening.  It will be a great chance to relax and have many conversations with our CFTA colleagues.  Guest tickets available for $50/person.  Buy Now!  Note: guests must obtain their own transportation to the event
