We joined to be part of a community that understands the unique challenges of facilities technology in higher education. The association brings together unmatched expertise, offering best practices, benchmarking, and collaborative opportunities that have led to innovative, real‑world solutions on our campus and beyond. Through peer networking and knowledge sharing, we’ve implemented improvements, contributed our own successes, and seen them adopted by other institutions. In an era of doing more with fewer resources, collaboration through CFTA isn’t just valuable; it’s essential to advancing efficient, sustainable, and future‑ready campuses.

I find that CFTA is a huge value to our work in higher education. Managing a higher education campus is challenging because it blends so many fields of expertise from building maintenance, space utilization, to owning and operating private infrastructure such as utilities to roadways. This is on top of the core education and research mission. The CFTA is uniquely suited because of the broad spectrum of subject matter experts all focused on solve these challenges every day. While being in higher education brings its own challenges, the close connection to the research and innovation efforts of faculty and the fact that many members are public employees brings a collegiality to the group not found in competitive sectors of the economy. Members are open and willing to share their experiences and help others troubleshoot problems. It’s actually quite refreshing and inspires me to think differently in how I may approach a similar problem.

I really enjoy being part of the CFTA organization.  It’s a great opportunity to network with colleagues at other higher educational institutions and business partners at our annual conference.  In addition, we’re able to share knowledge about our achievements as well as barriers in the campus environment as it relates to BIM, GIS, space management, document management, etc.  The one thing that I can honestly say is the members of the CFTA organization genuinely want to help each other in this growing technological environment.
